2024

Above: A poster featuring my dissertation research for the Geological Society of America Connects 2024 conference in Anaheim, CA (Wiitablake & Boyer, 2024). References and supplementary information can be found on ResearchGate by following the QR code, or by clicking here.

I originally set out to have as little text on the poster as possible, however, given the nature of qualitative data, I needed to include quotes. This changed the direction of the poster from a figure-oriented approach to a typography-oriented design. I used strategic variations in text weight and color, while holding the font consistent — even down to the text on the figures, which I redid to match the aesthetic of the poster.

2022

Above: The final project literature synthesis poster for the course ESED 8750 (Wiitablake, December 2022).

The design of this poster arose out of the need to keep the visuals simple. I had been trying to figure out how to attach each of the four inner theme boxes to the paper authors that form the U shape surrounding the inner themes, but without having any lines crossing over the poster elements. Instead of connecting lines, I went with tabs matching the color of the four inner theme boxes, positioning them on the paper authors to designate which papers had any of the four inner themes.

2018

Above: A poster from the California State University – Fullerton Department of Geological Sciences Research Day on the topic of my undergraduate thesis; Manageable Molecular Minerology, which had a geoscience education research (GER) focus (Wiitablake, 2018).

This poster was created during my undergraduate studies, and is a great example of how my design skills have progressed over the years.
